Tube recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Later this month I'm going to start getting my DR650 better suited to off-pavement riding w/ new tires, bars, handguards, etc. While I'm taking the time to change out the tires, I figure it's a good opportunity to upgrade to some beefier tubes.

Anyone have recommendations for tubes? I'm planning to run D606's front and rear. I tried searching, but couldn't find much at all on tubes. ?

Thanks,

- Chris

I just buy heavy duty tubes for peace of mind. I'm not too picky on the brand...Moose makes a good HD tube. They usually run about 30-50% more in price.

Michelin makes an Ultra Heavy Duty tube but I dont know if they offer them in 17"

Welcome to TT ?

Thanks for the info!? Bike Bandit lists the following, looks like they'll do the trick:

Moose Racing Heavy Duty Tubes

21" - 90/90-21, 80/100-21

17" - 2.50-17, 2.75-17

heavy duty tubes are a good thing if you intend to stay mostly off road and keep your street speeds down. otherwise, they generate more heat and can cause knobbies to breakdown. also, if you ever get a nail in a heavy duty tube it will most likely rip/split verses a standard tube which usually just gets a puncture. it's happened both ways to me. i just run standard tubes so hoepfully all i have to do is patch the tube but i always carry a spare for the worst case situation.

also, using the right air pressure for the terrain your riding makes a big difference in preventing tube bites. there's a thread about air pressure in tech tips.

That 17" you found fits a Honda Trail 90. Not wide enough for a DR650 rear.

I was wondering about that too and couldn't figure out if for some reason Bike Bandit was listing the rim size (rather than tire size) for the 17" tube... I checked Moose's site and the only 17" HD rear tube they list is a 4.50-5.10-17, so I guess Bike Bandit is only listing front tube sizes. ? Weird.
