All right I'm in, I just got my new to me dualsport...

Recommended Posts

Well I signed up here about a month ago to do some "research" and well, I brought home a 2000 DR650 yesterday:banana:...

After I decided the DR fit my needs at a $ I could live with, I started looking around and found this fine example...

100_1027.jpg

It is already uncorked and has the 4.9 gal tank, all mods I was looking to do in the firstplace... I'm really looking forward to tinkering with it and this site has given me a ton of ideas... I will ride and adjust as I go, and I'm sure I will be asking plenty o' questions in the DR forum... This is my first thumper and if the quick 60 miles I put on today are any indication, this is going to be fun!!!!:p

The Zook makes a nice dual sport 650. I picked up this 2002 Kawasaki KLR 650 back in 03 with 148 miles on it. I have added a boatload of goodies. (yes, I did the doohickey at 248 miles) I only have 3K on it now. I love dualsporting up forest service roads. This bike is too heavy for me to ever take it on trails.

I converted my KTM 525 EXC for dual sport use when I switch back to the 2008 KX450F for real dirt bike use.

Already have my Pro Moto Billet rack to add a way to carry stuff, just need to install. Does fine on the road, but better in the dirt than most any other dual sport bike.

Of course, this IS NOT for long highway use (100-150 miles max). For those 1000 mile weekend rides (no dirt), I switch to the Harley.

i had a '05 DR......great bike as long as you accept it for what it is.......i took it places it had no right to be in.......

even so.....a dual sport will always be a compromise, which is one of the reasons i decided to get rid of it......

a blast to ride around town though...more fun than my liter bike actually...

Thanks everyone...

1000lbs is really no joke... This came about when I had a VTX1800, rider + gear + bike = 1000lbs... We used to joke that it would make a good License plate:o

I'll have to see where this thing will take me... I went with DR for its road manners and I'm mostly interested in traveling a few routes I haven't on my street bikes due to partially paved conditions... Maybe after a few light trips out in the desert and we'll see how bad the dirt bug bits...

I just like the idea of being a noob again after being on the streets for 16 yrs:thumbsup: ...

Looking to buy a used Beta 2017 500 RRS from outside California.  Can I plate (Register with CA DMV) the bike in CA?  If so what is the best way?  Don't have the money to put down for a new bike from a Dealer in CA.  Any help or sugguestions would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

This continues to be my favorite trail/race weapon!! In our Eastern tight woods, power is not King, handling is. And this thing outhandles them all!!!!
