Replacing chain and sprockets, whats a good setup? 98 KDX 220

Recommended Posts

Going to replace my chain and sprockets soon on my 98 KDX 220. Whats the best chain to get? What would be a good sprocket set up? I would like to gear the bike down a little for more acceleration. Current mods are FMF pipe and silencer, boyesen reeds, bored carb.

Type of terrain has a lot to do with the gearing selection on the 220.

On my 97 220 with PC pipe, boyesen reeds and RB mods, I ran 13/50 for part of the season, but changed back to stock because I liked the spacing better. I ride mostly tight, steep, woods. I felt that with 13/50 I was always in the wrong gear. With the mods, the 220 seems to pull stock gearing better.

As far as chain and sprocket combo, I have always run a standard O-ring chain and steel sprockets. Not only are they cheaper, they also last forever and hold up to the abuse in the woods very well.

THanks.

It has been mentioned elsewhere that RAD valves are better than the boyseen valves.

What are RB mods?

Your thoughts?

I've never run the V-force reeds, but the Boyesen 607's do help with a more crisp throttle response.

rb-designs.com, check Ron out. He does amazing work to really wake up the KDX. Not sure about international shipping though.
