Californicator with AZ. Plating Questions

My brother-in-law just moved to Arizona. The wife and I are going to go see him in April (and I'm going to hit the Campwood Qualifier).

I want to give him my CRF230 so he can plate it in Arizona.

And being the good brother that I am, I'm thinking that I'll probably borrow it longterm.

I haven't paid any attention to Arizona lately. Can you guys still plate anything with wheels?

I'm about to buy the DS kit for the 230, but I just wanted to double check.

Also, can take care of all of this on a Friday?

I might give him my van too if I can't get it to pass smog.

To make it short: For an Az (rv) plate you'll need a title ($4), level 1 Vin inspection and an ohv sticker ($25). If you are just needing to ride for the race then I think there are other options?

Are you talking plate to be street legal (MC plate), or plate to ride on state/federal lands (RV plate)?

I'd contact these guys, i needed no inspection, just signed a form saying i had a horn,brake light and mirror. And there is never a line at this place (mesa,az. location)

Sorry about the confusion. I think my mentioning that I would be there for the Campwood Qualifier muddied the issue.

I'm talking about making my wife's CRF230 street legal in Arizona so I can ride it on the street here in SoCal.

We are driving out to Az. in April (to do the Campwood race and visit my brother-in-law at his new place).

I would like to get the bike plated while I'm there. Part of my question is if it's still possible to plate dirt bikes in Az. the other part was whether or not I could get it all wrapped up on a Friday.

My plan is to gift it to my brother-in-law (on paper), plate it, and borrow it.

I'm assuming you can still plate dirt bikes in Arizona, but it's been awhile since I've looked into it so I figured I'd start here first.

Ideally I'd like to avoid gifting it to him and just using his address to register the bike.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the lead. I'll call these guys and see if I can either point at my brother's residence as my residence or if I need to just gift him the bike.

Well if your brother lives in Maricopa county, then you need to deal with smog. If you leave it in your name with an AZ address and you get pulled over in CA with a CA license then you get a big fine for that - CA does not like it when you have a vehicle that is registered to you in another state.

Yeah it's funny how that works. They pull me over and give me a hard time about a vehicle I own and insure that happens to be registered to a residence in another state...While I'm sitting on the side of the road I promise 10 illegals will drive by in stolen, unlicensed, uninsured vehicles on their way to take their kids to schools I've paid for and wives to hospitals I have to wait 4 hours to get into.

They are smogging motorcycles in Az. now?

I will most likely give it to my brother-in-law for that reason although I'm not too worried since I only plan to operate it on surface streets in my neighborhood getting to and from work.

We've been down in SoCal for 10 years and our Nissan Pathfinder is still has Washington plates. I pay sales tax, property tax, income tax, plus I pay extra income tax on my contracting work that I go above and beyond the norm in order to get ahead...I still pay tax.

If a cop wants to crawl up my ass about my plate, let him. It's already pretty hogged out by this socialist state.
