BLUERIBBON COALITION LAND USE UPDATE

Giant Omnibus Bill Goes Down by 1 Vote!!

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

Greg Mumm, BRC's Executive Director, just called me from Washington D.C. He told me that the infamous Omnibus Public Lands bill, commonly known as "S. 22," failed by 1 vote in the House.

The Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009 had been fast-tracked through the U.S. Senate and had been expected to pass the House earlier today. Tell me one vote doesn't count! The bill is over 1,200 pages long with over 160 different bills, designates 2.2 million acres of Wilderness, identifies three new national parks, 10 national heritage areas, and designates over 1,000 miles of wild and scenic rivers.

We'll have details later. Thanks to all who made calls and emailed on this bill.

Brian Hawthorne

Public Lands Policy Director

We've put calls to action to contact your representatives in our last few member newsletters and of course, there has been play on TT regarding this issue.

So, for all of those that took the time to get involved, THANK YOU! As the BRC said, one vote DOES count.:)

I thanked mine for the "no" vote as well. I had emailed him a while back about it, and he sent me one back explaining that he felt the same way. It wasn't a form letter, and I was really impressed. It made me happy to have voted for him.

I would, but seeing as my reps. are too busy taking away freedoms and limiting recreation to vote no, they will not get a thank you. And seeing as they are too busy to even respond to a letter reference the CPSC, they also will not get my vote in future elections.

Make sure they know... If they value anything, it's their jobs...

Anybody notice virtually 100% of Democrats voted for it plus around 20% of the Republicans?

It's obvious we need to really work on the Democratic members. Looking at the results we will lose out of the Democrats take even slightly more seats. Hopefully this gives us some time to help craft a bill a little more favourable to our interests.
