Changing bars on my 08 WRR?

Recommended Posts

Well I've finally decided that I'm going to change the bars on my 08 wrr and I have a question about the grips??

Do I need to replace them or can I use the ones that came on the bike?

The bike only has a couple hundred miles on it and the grips are in new condition I was hoping not to replace them !!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Oh yeah I'm switching to Protaper contours! 1 1/8":ride:

I reused my stock grips but getting the

Clutch side off took some serious elbow grease.

I also reused the stock grips when I switched to a set of Pro Taper EVO bars.

I soaked the grip end of the bars in hot water for a few minutes then peeled the grips off inside-out, it was a bit of a pain but I'd do it again.

Ditch the grips! Replacing the bar and leaving the grips is like buying a Mercedes and moving over your old purple seat covers with flames.

The stock grips are easy to get off. A little trick I learned is take your air gun and slip under the grip shoot a little air and it just slides off. Same with putting them on if you don't use glue. If you have an air gun that is. I hope this helps. I wish I was smart enough to figure this out myself.

Ya the compressed air trick works real good, i thought that was my idea! But ya, a blow gun with a small little air outlet makes it easy as pie

I got the pad at the local shop but Rockymountainatv.com or motosport.com has them.

Thanks for the info guys!

I went with protaper contour's w/woods bend and the protaper rubber mount's.

The reason I went with this set-up is mostly because of things I read on this forum!!

Thanks again for the input guys!!

Cheers!

The mirrors just screw on to the factory brake and clutch brackets. I just did not put them back on for the picture.
