TT-R 230 Baffle

Recommended Posts

I posted a wanted ad here in the TTR section for a baffle. "Touchstone" responded saying that he would sell me one for 40 bucks plus 15 shipping. He said he would only sell me the whole exhaust and not just the baffle. Since I couldn't locate another one, I decided to bit the bullet and just buy it. Sent the money order and Russel Touchstone sent me this exhaust. Mind you, I ONLY wanted the baffle and this is what I got:Stickintheass001.jpg

After I called him out on it, he emailed me and told me I am the one confused. His words "when i saw your post and responded and later talked on the phone i gave you all the info about what i had from a ttr230 that hadn't even had a whole tank of gas ran thru it and i had a bone stock unmolested exhaust pipe that you could have for $40 and that i was unwilling to take it apart.nothing has been removed from the exhaust pipe and maybe you are the one who is confused about what you are really looking for." So what is it guys, does the exhaust he sent me have a baffle in it or am I smoking crack?

Here is a full picture of the exhaust "that hadn't had even a full tank of gas through it" Ya right! Could somebody please post a picture of your stock exhaust with the baffle in it?

Found a pic on the net, so i guess I win if you are reading this Russel. See that insert in the end of the exhaust? That is a baffle which yours was missing.

Funny thing is that when I am talked to him on the phone, he is adamant in believing that the exhaust actually does have a baffle. Now he won't return my phone calls now that he realizes I am right. Oh well, I guess he is more in need of the 55 bucks than I am. :)

That is why I never pay with a MO. Do paypal in the future. At least then you get to argue your case and have a chance at getting your money back.

I think it was said in a previous post but don't buy from people with a low post count. Way to many scammers on here.

I think the term "buyer beware" applies here.

Here is a tip. When buying something over the internets its always a good idea to request a picture of the item . That way, you'll have an idea of the genreal condition and if the item in question has what you're looking.

Ya, I definitely screwed my self by not at least requesting a picture. But still pretty Brazen of Russel to still deny that he removed the baffle or at least acknowlege that it is missing. He won't even return a phone call now. Maybe if I start sending gay porn pics to his cell???

Methinks you asked the wrong question! ... What you were after was the spark arrestor. The baffles are internal to the exhaust and as far as I know, cannot easily be removed.

Sounds like the same thing to me. the spark arrestor is easily removed and looks to be more like "the insert" that you are talking about

Well, either way, he denies removing anything from the muffler whether it be the sparky or baffle. According to him it was mint and unmolested.

I checked the maintenence manual and the only reference I could find to this part of the exhaust system is the "exhaust core". This is what is removed when you take out the 3 screws on the end of the can. Based on the picture it appears to be the spark arrestor (cylindrical screen) and the "baffle" sits inside. Now, you, me and most everyone else it seems, knows what a baffle is (or at least what part this term refers to) so this guy's either completely clueless or full of $hit.

I'm also looking for the baffle only (not to be confused with the spark arrestor).

The baffle inserts into the spark arrestor and is secured with one bolt. Considering it is removable, I can't believe Yamaha doesn't sell replacements. Instead they want to soak you for a whole muffler which is like 600.00.

Noise is an issue where I ride and it's just too noisy without the baffle. Anyone know where to get one?

Thanks guys - let me know.

I have an extra baffle if you want it.. give you a good deal on it.

i also have the entire exhause without the spark arrestor. Had to buy a new one due to the fact the previous owner took the spark arrestor out. but i still have baffle. Let me know if you want it.
