Well, I guess we will see who will step up in this economy...

RIVERSIDE -- Southern California RV-builder Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Riverside-based company said Tuesday that its motor home and manufactured housing businesss will continue to operate while it seeks buyers for those business units.

But Fleetwood says it's closing its travel trailer division, which accounted for losses of more than $65 million in 2007 and nearly $17 million in 2008. The closing affects three manufacturing facilities and two service facilities employing about 675 people. The company is also laying off an additional 65 corporate associates.

Last December, Fleetwood closed its manufactured home plant in Woodland, one of six facilities nationwide that the company shuttered.

The Woodland plant opened on North Pioneer Avenue in 1972 and had employed 93 people at the time it closed. In February 2007, the local plant had celebrated the production of its 30,000th factory-built, affordable home.

The Woodland location delivered manufactured homes to buyers in the greater Sacramento area, Oregon and western Nevada. When the facility closed, the region was to be serviced by plants in Riverside and Woodburn, Ore
