Beefing up Ranger Suspension

Recommended Posts

How can I beef up the suspension on a 2wd, 4cyl (2.3) Ranger? I cut and haul firewood with it and usually don't load it much beyond the bed rails but I tend to get some sag in the suspension.

I obviously don't want to break anything but it would be nice to be able to throw a bit more in per trip.

v6 or v8 springs in the front and add a leaf in the rear will stffin it up and stiffer shocks. You might gain an 1"--1 1/2" of lift.

Airbags. Then you won't kill your ride when unladen.

Check your GAWR too, before you damage something.

I'd stick w/ add a leaf, bags seem a bit much for a 2wd, 2.3.

Good point-about the time the suspension runs out of "gusto" is shortly before the engine runs out of "oomph". Actually, the engine will probably last longer than the AT or clutch will.
