1982 XR250 Rear Shock Upgrade

Recommended Posts

According to the Works Performance stock measurements table the 1982 XR250 rear shock measures at 13.5" hole-to-hole. Is this the same shock as the longer travel XR200s from '84-'91? I know the 1984-85 XR250 will work on the XR200, but I haven't seen anyone on here reference the Pre-1984 bikes.

Will this fit my 2001 xr200? Can someone confirm this as an upgrade?

Further reading on the WP website shows the 13 1/2" shock is used on:

84-87 XR200R

81-85 XR250R

81-82 XR500R

The 13 1/4" shock was used on:

81-83 XR200R

88-02 XR200R

Shock length is not the only differences thru the years; to my knowledge none of the XR200R shocks have any adjustability other than spring pre-load. I have an 84 XR250R shock and it has adjustable damping with a remote resorvoir. My 87 XR250R also had adjustable damping.

The XR600 shocks are longer and some have adapted them to the XR200R but I don't know what linkage they used.

That is very interesting, my rear shock is adjustable on my 82 XR200R. I wonder what shock I really have. I always thought eh front was a little low for the bike. I will have to try to find a part number for it and search it out.

Ok Guys, i got my shock in a couple of weeks ago off of ebay. Its from a 1982 XR250. It bolts right on. The only problem I had was the top eye-hole was missing the rubber grommet and bushing. I got some guys from work to turn a bushing for me and it works like a charm. The '82 shock is a Showa. I believe the original shock on my 2001 XR200 is a Kayaba.
