Automatic timing chain tensioner?

I just re-done my piston and rings and when I put the chain tensioner back in I went to install the bolt and o-ring on the end and the bolt pulled the threads off the end. I installed a longer bolt to catch the better threads in the hole. Will this cause a problem with the longer bolt in the end of the tensioner?

did you compress the tensioner before putting it back in?

I took a small screwdriver and done it but not for sure. Could you tell me how to compress it and install it correct? Thanks for any advice.

No, it shouldn't. That bolt has nothing to do with the actual tensioner. It just plugs the hole. As long as the longer bolt isn't going in too far and hitting the tensioner further in the hole, you should be good to go.
