Oil Pump - engine rebuild

Recommended Posts

Am rebuilding my engine and have just reassembled the crank cases with new crankshaft. However, I notice that the oil pump turns freely and then tightens and then loosens during each revolution. It can be turned by hand, but I'm not sure if this tightening is normal (is this just the pump building pressure) or should the shaft spin freely??:)

It's good, , Is there any scratches on the flat surfaces of the two parts of the pump? Or on the flat surface of the case. That's were the concern is. The scratches let oil squeeze by, which brings down your oil pressure (not good). No scratches means your probably good to go.

OK - I dismantled the cases again and noticed that the rotor may have been rubbing against the crank case gasket / or the inner rotor has a bevel on one side more pronounced than the other which I switched around - whatever, I have it reassembled and it now rotates smoothly without any tightening.
