kx60 as pitbike?

Recommended Posts

On my local craigslist there is a 1994 kx60 for sale. It needs a little bit of work (new piston and rings as well as crank bearings), nothing that is a really big deal.

It's very cheap, but will this be a good pit bike? I know it's not an automatic/centrifugal clutch like some bikes. But it is a little bigger than the average 50 right? I know it'd be a little more work to ride (shifting and all), but I figure it has enough power to be very fun, am I right in thinking that?

I'm just getting into pitbikes myself but...

I'm sure it would have enough power, but you'd have to rev it high to get anywhere, no? Isn't all the torque for 2 strokes way up in the RPMs? Also, I always thought pit bikes were meant to have the crap beaten out of them, and maybe a 2 stroke would require maintenance more often? Also, you pretty much would be riding a weedwhacker :)

Be a fun bike for sure ! I have an 83 KX60 that needs rebuilt also. (rod is seized)

You won't be able to race it in any "pit bike" classes. But still a fun "pit bike" to blast around on. I can't wait to get mine going!
