gas tank hitting valve cover?

Recommended Posts

after i switched to a newer style gas tank on my cr80 conversion i noticed that the gas tank is touching the valve cover. im worried that if it gets hot enough it could burn a hole in the tank.

you think this will cause any problems?

heres some pics of the bike:

I had the same problem with my conversion.. I use a heat gun and molded that part of the tank in little.

My Concern would be the combination of head heat and chaffing.

Have you tried to lift the back of the tank a little? Doesn't look like it needs much of a lift kit...

Are you using the rubber frame things that going under the tank to lift it up? You can weld a little tab to lift the tank a bit taller or grind the valve cover a bit, then polish it so no one would know and it won't look hacked.

the original owner who did the conversion already has the tank raised like 1.5 inches plus those rubber things. ill see if i can shim it to raise it up some more

or make some new mounting brackets.
