Does the coast enricher do any good?

Recommended Posts

I'm talking about the system on the FCR carb on my 2000 E.

I appreciate it stops the bike back firing while coasting which is good for keeping noise pollution to a minimum but are there any other advantages to keeping it?

Does it make the engine run cooler by allow the piston to cool down better between accelerations?

All it does enrichen the mix solely to cut down on decel backfiring. It can make setting the fuel screw more difficult and use of a A/F tool to be inaccurate. It is also know to fail, thereby causing a excessively rich moxture all the time. If you keep an eye on it, disable when you tweak the fuel screw or use a A/F tool, it is not a problem. I keep them enabled on my bikes. Otherwise, I have to run a slight rich on the straight diameter of the needle to reduce the decel popping.
