Fork Seal Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi Peeps.

I've searched but couldn't find what I need.

Do I need the 'Special Tool' to remove the damper rod to replace the fork seals?

Also was gonna run a heavier oil in front. Standard says a 5 weight should I go for a 10 or a 7.5?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I don't think you'll need a special tool to remove any parts but replacing the seals without the fork seal driver tool is a pain in the butt, requires you to improvise and tap the seal into place but the fork seal driver makes it much easier: http://www.roostracing.co.uk/tools.php

You might be able to make your own fork seal driver as well, at £50 a pop I'm not sure if I'd buy that tool, unless I was replacing fork seals regularly.

Also, check out the YouTube vids for a rough idea on the process:

you may need a tool to hold the damper rod (i did when i did the racetech goldvalve) motion pro makes it the item number is 15-8223, it will run you around 35 bucks through TT, i should add you only need it for the S

as for fork oil its a personal preference Im running Repsol 5w synthetic

I assume you mean pre-2002 "S?"

2002 and later S forks are the same as 2000 and newer E forks.
