Rear Tire Losing Air

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

My rear tire loses all of it's air in-between rides (about 2 weeks). The bike is an '08 and I'm still on the original tire.

I checked the tire for damage - nothing, and the spokes are tight.

Is this normal? Is anyone experiencing the same?

Thanks,

Alex

Have you tried changing the inner tube? I would put a heavy duty tube in it.

Sir, you may have a slow leak in your tube.

Or the tire genies are letting your air out at night when your sleeping...

Remove wheel and put it in a container with enough water to cover the spokes at the bottom of the wheel, slowly rotate the wheel one full turn. It is easy to locate very small leaks this way. Mark it with a crayon to locate after you dismantel the tire. Ervin

Check that the valve stem isn't loose...this is a cause of most slow leaks, besides a tiny puncture in the tube.

Get a valve removal tool and make sure the valve is tight in the stem. You can also squirt some W-D40 into the valve stem then put in a little air and repeat. Sometimes a bit of debris gets in between the valve and the seat or the valve can get dry.

Or you could have a bad tube.
