Those engine guards look really funky.. . the utah sport cycle plate has worked wonders for me:

I'm a carbon fiber guy myself, but that is kinda cool! It looks like something you would see on a Mad Max bike. Gives it that "tough" look. I imagine if you are doing the kind of trail riding that requires you needing that, you aren't too worried about the fact that it weighs 8.5lbs.

The Skid Plate sold by Utah Sport Cycle, is also the exact same piece marketed by Moose, TT, MSR, and Baja Designs. I have one too, and it's great. I dunno who actually makes this skid plate, but with that many different vendors labeling it as their own, they must make a lot of them.

looks like that skid plate still wouldn't keep the shift lever from getting pushed through the engine case in a crash.

I was waiting for someone to bring up the price. That's what made me shake my head! I just put the TT skid plate on mine and the price beats the HELL out of $230!

I would hope that plate doesnt have the 'Hooks' to hold it onto a DRZ... A good DRZ Plate should be able to mount into exisitng holes in the frame.
