Ontario Amateur Enduro Series

OAES

In Association with World Enduro Canada (WEC)

Currently in Ontario there are no amateur enduro events that help bridge the gap for riders who want to compete in the national events but are unsure of what to expect. The concept behind the DBx Ontario Amateur Enduro Series (OAES) is to create events that are aimed at amateur and novice riders in an attempt to help aspiring racers to improve the skills required to compete at a higher level in endures, and also attract new riders into the enduro scene.

An amateur enduro rider is not necessarily a novice rider. The amateur could be an accomplished MX or Hare Scramble (HS) competitor that has never raced an enduro or they could be a long time trail rider that is completely new to the off road racing scene. A novice rider is simply a new rider with limited skill. This series will offer both of these types of riders an opportunity to improve on the skills required to compete at the national enduro level (such as the WEC events) before jumping into a national event.

OAES will be a 4 event series with the last two events being the WEC Parry Sound Grand Prix. The first two events will be held on separate weekends during the summer months and will be slightly less difficult then the final event in order to allow riders a gradual learning curve. In addition, the WEC rules will be utilized in order to not add any more complexity.

There will be three main class levels, 1) Amateur (there are several sub classes included in Amateur) 2) Family 3) No-Points (these classes will be detailed later in this document). The Family class will only be offered in the first two events and is a team entry. The No-Points class is for pro riders who may want to use the event to practice for national events and is also only offered in the first two rounds.

Providing competitions for the amateur rider is a great way to help those that want to compete without the pressures of entering a national event. A great way to get your feet wet without drowning.

Events

July 26, 2009 – Burnt River, Ontario

August 23, 2009 – Parry Sound (different location then the second PS event)

Sept 19 and 20 – Parry Sound WEC.

Classes

Amateur - This class is for all non-pro riders.

A (3 to 5 years experience racing or returning racers)

B (1 to 3 years experience in motorcycle competition)

C (first time competitors)

Amateur Vet (+40)

Amateur Super Vet (+50)

Women

Family Class – Includes at least two members and a max of 4 member entry per team with an average score being used. The entire team will ride together on the same minute. (Note: This class is only available in the first two rounds)

No-Points Class – Includes riders that are ranked higher then amateur but would like to ride the event to practice. (Note: This class is only available in the first two rounds)

Equipment Requirements

All motorcycles are required to have a working headlight and tail light. Brake lights are not required. …Note: This is a requirement only at the events that fall under the WEC (i.e. Last Parry Sound rounds). The first two rounds of the OAES will not require the bike to have any lighting system. There may be a requirement for exhausts to be equipped with a spark arrestor. (Check the supplementary rules for each individual race)

The sound limit for all OAES events is 96db. Most stock or production enduro motorcycle exhausts system can meet this standard that is used world-wide.

We require every competitor to wear a full coverage style helmet that has a Snell 2005 approval. All other safety equipment worn by each competitor is at the discretion of that competitor. Helmets will be inspected at the technical inspection.

Membership Requirements

A membership to the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) is required to run any WEC event. No membership is required for the first two events of the OAES. For the WEC Parry Sound rounds please bring proof of membership to the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) to enter a CEC event. You may already be a member or can become one by joining any number of affiliate organizations in Canada. If you are not an affiliate member an MCC membership costs $25 per year and can be obtained at sign in or online.

Here is some additional information on the series...

Fees

Entry Fees

Each event will have an entry fee of $50 (PS WEC is 2 events and thus $100). Therefore, to enter the entire series is only $200. We are also going to provide a price break for those who enter all 4 events by July 20 (one week prior to first event). The disount will be $25....therefore total entry fees will be only $175 or $43.75/event. This is the least expensive entry fee for any enduro or HS in Ontario to date.

Membership Fees

The PS WEC event requires a MCC fee. That is only $25 and can be purchased at the event or online Here

Other Fees

One time transpnder purchase fee of $40 is required as electronic scoring will be in effect for all events. You also have the option to rent the device for $20 per event if you wish.

To ride all four events it will cost you $240-$265 (depending if you pre-enter all events or not)...which is $60-$66.25/event.

Championship Point System

There will be a series champion for each classs as well as an overall champion. The point system calculation will be an average of your top 3 events. Therefore if you ride all 4 events you can remove your lowest scoring event from you average.

Criteria For Inclusion in Championship Scoring...

1)Must enter at least 3 events of which two must include both PS WEC events (Sept 19 and 20).

2)Must enter the same class for each event.

The overall champion will simply be a draw of names from the class winners. Basically it is a bonus award which can be won be any class winner.

More details to follow so stay tuned...
