yz400f engine rebuild

okay, unfortunitly I was right, the 400 I bought does need a full engine, the previous owner did indeed put a new piston and rings but he did not fix the cylinder which is missing chunks of crome plating. Anyway, is the 426 jug different in size?

Replate or get new cylinder, the new one is about 100 dollars more. Ideas?

Any must knows or upgrades on the rebuild?

If you want to get off as cheaply as possible, then go the replate route.

If you're going to go with a new cylinder, and the crank needs work, you can make a 426 out of it by using the connecting rod, wrist pin, piston, and cylinder from the bigger bike.
