Honest question... but, it'll be tought to get an honest answer out of some of these blokes. It's like... pullin' teeth. Painfull.

I'll attach a pic of my fearless leader attacking silt.... but, have you seen some of the videos of riders, in the '07 1000... in the silt? Namely, where Pastrana burnt up his DRZ .... it should give you an idea of how the "pros" do it. Here's a good link to start;

(some incredibly deep silt video'd)

that's vid's crazy...never seen that before

It looks just like really fine, deep sand

the best answer::::::try to find a line around it.

If not possible just hit it at mid to low speed and keep the momentum try it like sand sit back for traction. This is one of the places where a good stabilizer helps.

Avoid it if at all possible. Otherwise, keep up your momentum, keep it straight and use your feet as skis if needed. Then, change your air filter :p

Be the first one in your group to go through it..:p

It's not really like sand, it's more like powder or flour. In Vegas to Reno it got so deep I was expecting my pegs to start dragging. It was coming off the front tire and washing over my boots, felt like water. I was running maybe 3rd gear trying to keep some mo up, but was too paranoid to go really fast. A year before that my son was going through a silt bed in 6th gear when he caught a rut and was pitched off. Fractured his elbow. One of the more experienced riders in our club told us "you don't go through silt that fast. Keep your mo up, stay back, stay loose. There's rocks and ruts hiding under the surface. If you can, ride out on the edge." Unfortunately in my section of V2R going wide put me out in these weed clumps, where I was slower and they were making the bike kick so I had to dive back in. There's a great picture of my son hitting a silt hole in the 2007 V2R on acceler8ing.com click on Best in the desert, then 2007, Vegas to Reno, bikes, 337. Sorry could'nt get it to load on here.

I'm trying to figure out where you are coming from in that pic? Did JAT hook you up with a cheater line, and the picture caught you jumping back on course?

Is that a Maxxis front tire?
