1985 XL600R Rear Wheel Bearings

Hi guys I have one more question. I was replacing my chain and sprokets and noticed the rear bearings are all bad. One has a ring with 4 notches above it. It looks like i would need a special tool to remove this. It also looks like it has been staked to the hub. Can this be removed with a screwdriver or what is my next move? I figured i'd ask before i mess it up. Please advise, is there an easy way to do this?

thanks

jason

There is a tool made to remove the lock ring, but you can use a brass drift and tap it loose being careful not to bugger it up, when you reinstall it be sure to punch it at the edges to keep it from backing out or use loctite on cleaned threads to secure it.
