89 Honda XLV600 Transalp problem

Recommended Posts

Recently brought, 13,000 miles. Took it out for a group ride this past Friday,m performed really well, till the afternoon. I think one of the cylinders stopped firing. Believe it's an ignition module problem, for a few miles it was intermittently cutting in and out and then just stopped. Bike's still working but on one cylinder.

Feedback from Transalp owners please.

Probably one of the CDI's. Common problem. There is suppose to be a updated mount that prevents the seat from making contact with the CDI's.

Man I sure miss my old TransAlps.

+2 on what the others said. Did you notice if the tack stopped working when the one cylinder went down? If so, its the back cylinder and the left cdi.

I had the same issue.

Mine just went out but it was the front cylinder. There is a way of slicing the CDI open and re-soldering it if I can find the thread again. Also you need to remount the cdi units so the seat does not press on the connectors...

I always liked those euro looking beasties.  One of the few I never owned. Good bikes?
