broken bone and passing the time!

Recommended Posts

How do you guys cope with broken bones, especially during the middle and the good part of the riding season? i broke my tibia and fibia and the doctors say it will be around 3 months before i will be able to get back on a bike. they casted me from my toes all the way up to my mid thigh and i cant do $hit! i bought an x box but what else can i take up in the next 3 months to pass the time? Also, has anyone else broken both bones and how long did it take you to recover, rehab, and ride!? im going to go crazyyyyyy.............

right or left leg? You might be able to just get on the bike and ride slowly...

otherwise i just wen to the gym, hung out with friends, ,played xbox, watch porn..., really if you think about it, its not that bad, you can do alot of things still and its only 3 months of your long life ahead, dont stress over it.

Besides if you eat healthy, get a lot of iron and calcium and don't put a lot of pressure on it, it will heal faster, 3 months is just an educated guess by the doctor.

thats what im wondering? it doesnt seem that bad, ive sprained my ankle and its hurt less than this so it doesnt seem bad but bones do take time to heal.... i was doing a fmx show and came up short on the first jump and caught the middle of the frame on the back of the landing and just snapped both bones. would such an impact cause more time to heal the bones, i wouldnt think so....it doesnt matter how they break do they, are some worse than others(with the exception of poking thru the skin...)

Broke my tibia right at the joint and banged up my knee bottoming out the suspension. tried to jump down into a creek bed but rolled too much speed and slammed into the other side when it started to climb back up. they pinned my ankle and cleaned up my knee at the same time almost a month ago, had a postopp cast for a about a week. pretty much in bed for two weeks straight after that. ps3, movies, internet, same stuff. watched alot of riding technique videos and maintenance videos. downloaded the shop manuals for my bikes, pretty much read them cover to cover. found out my local shop is retarded. when i could move i repaired everything i could find on the bikes. you definitely want no bike issues when youre ready to roll again. finally allowed to walk on it next week according to the doc. definitely cant ride dirt yet but have just started running around the supermoto a little. jumping will probably take all of 3 months but ill probably start playing around in the dirt in a couple of weeks. i think rehab is 2 months but after one you should be back around 90 percent. the length of time will be determined by when you are able to start rehab. just make sure you take a ton of calcium with magnesium twice a day.

like all the rest have said eat healthy and nutrition. Then on the side there is all sorts of things you can do such as rebuild and finally get those "I wanna do's" done on ur bike and get her ready for the comeback tour. Then lil hobbys like radio controlled stuff, shooting guns, blowing stuff up and or get a project or something like a super go cart or somethin. I blew my knee out twice and couldnt ride for 6 months each time so I did a lot of all of these and it made it go by faster and kept me from going insane but anyway all the luck to you man I have a friend that did what you did and they had to pin it in place and put rods in so he will be out for a while they didnt give him a down time just a well in a while we will take the halo setup off after some x rays and then we'll see

just thought of an idea do what nofear does on here find a decent bike and rebuild it and turn it around and sell it and try to make some extra cash while you have the time

I wish you the best. I nearly (or may have according to some) went insane when I broke my collarbone in Nov. Bike was 100% rebuilt ready to race like 2 weekends after the crash. 6 weeks after the crash I had surgery, then was back on the bike 12 weeks after that.

I crashed may 30 and ended up breaking my wrist, got lucky on that! But i've been doing as much as i can to stay in shape, got the bike fixed, and other than that i've been hanging out with friends, and i've even gone back to work for my dad on our farm. Also i'm trying to get all the rest of the things i have to do over summer out of the way so when i get my cast off i can ride a lot

You should have broke it worse. I busted my femur (slightly compound even) and was riding gently in 7 weeks with a titanium plate. No crashing allowed tho.

Learn to play guitar, screw around on the internet, work on your bike....

Get other stuff taken care of. I had the yard guy come do some landscaping and put in an RV gate in the back fence, and I had a vasectomy (since I was already off the bike, no extra lost riding time). Count all the money you're saving by not riding your bike every weekend. lol.

Lol I bet he had no idea someone would suggest a vasectomy! Drinking beer helps too.

At 16, he probably doesn't need one yet, lol. At 47, I needed one, so it seemed like a good time since it wouldn't lay me up any worse.

Alcohol slows healing I'm told. I know it slows my recovery from exercise and minor injuries. So I kept my drinking very very light, so as to be back on the bike as soon as possible.
