Is KTMtalk site down?

Recommended Posts

Just looking through the different forums, and KTM talk seems to be off line. Does anyone know if this is permanent, temporary, or just me?

Thanks,:worthy:

I was on there a few minutes ago. Now it's not working for me either. Sure it will be back up soon.

Whats a DOS attack?

A DOS attack is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.

I think this kinda thing happens very often for popular websites and has happened to ktmtalk a few times over the past year...

DOS: Denial Of Service, basically you request the site many thousand times a second from several locations. It overloads the server and it stops responding to request. :worthy:

I think that IP is for opendns.net based out of SF and not the actual IP of KTMtalk.

Im pretty sure ktmtalk is hosted out of a facility somewhere in Texas, maybe Houston, Rackspace in Dallas got nailed by a nasty power outage today due to a truck crash.

I could be wrong also but the lookup is dead everywhere, Ive even checked DNS systems in Europe and Asia.

Most data centers and hosting facilites are very good at and have tool to avoid DOS or DDOS attacks anymore, it doesnt happen as often as people think anymore. I am pretty sure KTMTalk is hosted in one of these centers.

I'm the owner of hosting business myself. Power outage is the last thing you want. Global lowest uptime on my servers is 199 days, I have everything running through a proxy to avoid false connections and attacks. :worthy:

Probably doesnt matter anyway, primary DNS records are down along with the site regardless, he is probably working hard to bring it back online. :worthy:

This is kinda fun

I see what your saying but it still seems like it is pointing to hit-servfail.opendns.com yeh probably opendns may only be the hosting DNS, dunno, Cogent wont let a clean trace past 38.104.102.62. I got a null result from a dig over here.

Dude rackspace being down for 1.5 hours is like the end of the world for many companys.

I use opendns for resolution here, I guess its a feature to redirect failed servers to there "shit" page. Fun, I bet hes having a mess of fun getting the site rolling again. I rent boxes from 1&1, more reliable.
