I just bought a 1999 yz400!!! What brand of crankcase oil is best for this bike? What kind of oil filter ? Thanks From Texas. : ?

Hey man, the best oil is a never ending debate and lots can be read on the search function.

Good ole yamalube is great.

Your oil filter should also be a Yamaha oem filter. Unless you want to spend $70 on a re-usable Scott filter, it's up to you.

Like vegas said, OEM filter.

Ive never had a problem just recleaning my stock filter over and over. Its a metal, screen type filter.

I dont guess they wear out, so Im not sure why a Scotts would be any better.

Anyone know? ?

The "Scotts" uses a finer mesh that traps smaller, and more particles than OEM. But it being $70.00, has kept me away. I clean and reuse the stocker over, and over, and over, and over........Maniac
