Green Grease and Steering Head Bearings

Recommended Posts

Since there are alot of threads appearing about steering head bearings,

I thought I would chime in. I have an 06 YZ 250. After reading

all the problems that folks were having about their steering head bearings

I thought I should give them a once over this morning. Its been a year or more since I lubed them last. I had forgotten what I used as grease until

I opened them up. So what I did this morning, I washed my bike first

to see how much moisture the tube took on. I rode in very dry and dusty

conditions yesterday, so this is a good test. When I opened them up

I found a good amount of water and moisture. I wash my bike at least

once a week, maybe twice. The bearings were well lubed and no rust.? There were very little surface wear and that was it. The Green Grease is a more dense than the Bel Ray that I was normally using. GG is waterproof and made for wet conditions. I bought the grease at Advance Auto and it comes in a tube that looks to be fitted in a grease gun. I should mention I never changed the bearings yet on that bike. In the past I used Bel Ray. But this last time I used the Green Grease over a year ago. I thought I should share my find!
