MXDN Fiasco... How it affects others...

Recommended Posts

Just got news of this - although it affects Australia fundamentally, it also affects every one in the sport. I have been following the fiasco that it has been up until now, but this is the worst fallout.

Australian team withdrawn from Motocross of Nations

Following the recent rescheduling of the 2002 Motocross of Nations, Motorcycling Australia has regretfully withdrawn the Australian team from the event.

The 2002 Motocross of Nations was scheduled for San Jacinto, California this weekend (September 28-29) but was cancelled last weekend, due to a dispute over the use of the land surrounding the site. The event has been rescheduled to take place in Spain on October 19-20.

The new date conflicts with some of the team members’ long standing commitments to events in Australia and elsewhere, making it impossible to field the strongest team.

This year represented Australia’s best chance of winning a place on the podium, according to Motocross Commission chairman Mark Luksich.

Australia’s team comprised the talented Chad Reed, Andrew McFarlane and Craig Anderson.

“We’ve been robbed of a potential podium position for this year’s Motocross of Nations,” Mr Luksich said.

“We had all the ingredients of success and the right mix of personnel in the team, and to have that opportunity taken away, at such short notice, is very disappointing,” he said.
