Yamaha 2001 raptor 660r

anyone have any comments on this like good stuff about it and bad stuff about it i would reeally like to hear. my friend has one for sale for $2500 which i think is good so i'm thinking about buying it. i dont think it has 2 many miles on it. so anyone's opinion on this quad would be appriciated.

The 01 had issues with the tranny and the one way bearing. Check out bluetraxx.com for more info on this.

The trannies commonly went out on the 2001's.

Replacing the tranny is going to cost you about 700 bucks or so if it goes south on you.

someone told me on bluetraxx that if it has been replaced or hasn't went out yet after 5 years it should be good cuz i know this thing has been ridden some. he said they comonly went out in the first year or two. how do u know if your one-way is out or is going to go out soon. is there any signs?

You said it didn't have too many miles on it correct?

I assume by this you mean it is a low mileage Raptor?

If so, it still could lose the tranny I would think?

how do u know if your one-way is out or is going to go out soon. is there any signs?

I do own an '03 so my knowledge on the '01s trannies are purely knowledge I've read about on other peoples misfortunes. I'd say if that the tranny hasn't gone on that Raptor in 5 years you're in the clear.

When a one way goes bad or is going bad it just makes really bad clunking noises when starting it, when it is gone the quad won't start.

Other then that I think the Raptor is an awesome machine, keep up on maintanence and it'll never let you down. raptortranny.com has a great tutorial on how to adjust valves which you should do atleast one a year or even season.

it will let you down when rocks are getting flung in your face from other quads passing you, thats all. lol i'm just jokin....wait..am i? hey, the raptor does have a more comfortable ride tho.
