xr 500 timing?

i blew the headgasket out on my 1983 xr 500 last week. i ordered the gasket kit and the clymer manual to do the job. i got the gasket last week, but still no book.. i was chomping at the bit to get this thing back rolling so i went ahead and replaced the gasket. the issue i am having is timing. does anyone know the procedure to time the chain and camshaft? i zip tied the chain to the wheel, but it moved. i now it is pretty easy, does anone have any tips.. i wanna go ride. thanks.

Position the crank at TDC by lining up the marks on the flywheel(through the access holes), install the cam with the lobes facing down, and line up the lines on the cam sprocket with the adjacent gasket surface.
