E Gas Tank - Lower Mounts Too Wide?

Recommended Posts

I don't remember the lower mounts on the tank being so much more wide compared to the frame mounts...what gives? Do I just force the tank's bottom mounts inward flush against the frame mounts even if there is almost a 3" gap? It seems like that really would bind the tank and stress those mounting tabs too much. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

A stock "E" tank on an "E" frame fits with no gap. There are no loose spacers. It just fits, no drama. Is it possible the E tank was stored so pressure built up in the tank and it has spread 3"? If you pressurize a tank, that is what it does. So if that is the problem, warm it up and bring it back into alignment slowly.

I guess that is what happened at some point but not sure how or when...

I ended up using a .5" nylon spacer on each side and slightly longer M6s, but next time I need to yank the tank I will follow your advise.

Thanks
