XR650R-Question on valve adjustment and left side gasket cover

Recommended Posts

I just readjusted the valves on my Xr650R. This was the second time I have done this and it does not get easier with practice! Is there any way to do the valve adjustment without removing the entire left side cover? the setup was better with the Xr600.

I have a Moose skidplate and I did damage the gasket slightly when wiggling it off-it's now oozing a few drops of oil. Would it be okay to run the bike for a few more rides before replacing the gasket? Does the stator hojusign usually run full of oil?

Mike.

I always remove the stator cover to do the valves, but that little allen hole/bolt can be used to do it. There should be NO oil in there, if there is your crank bearing(behind the flywheel) needs to be replaced. Also the next time you put the gasket on the cover put a few dabs of grease around it (towards the engine), so that way it will come off next time undamaged:thumbsup:

Edit: I mean crank seal, not bearing.
