CRF250R or CRF450R?

Recommended Posts

As of now I am riding a 2001 CR 250, I will be keeping this bike.

I have never owned a 4-stroke but I am hopefully about to.

My question is WHAT TO BUY?

I raced a friends 04 YZ250F when my bike was down and it felt like I had to really abuse it to ride as fast as my CR250 so that makes me want the 450, but I like the light weight of the 250 so Im kinda stuck. I also ride woods a bit but the CR250 will probably get woods duty when the new bike arrives.

These are all brand new. So which is the best choice and why?

07 CRF450R $5,233

07 CRF250R $3,783

08 CRF450R $4,933

08 CRF250R $4,783

09 CRF450R $6,233

09 CRF250R $5,883

10 CRF250R $6,583

All of those bikes are great in thier own right but I would go with anything 09 and above if it is in your budget.

Personally I think a dialed-in, well balanced 10 CRF250R will be hard to beat in the woods and on the track.

If you're really worried about the power and weight, the 09/10 CRF450 is about 8 lbs heavier than the CRF250. My kids a 130lbs soak and wet and looks like he has 0% muscle. He throws the 09 450 around like its a toy. You'd have no issues with the weight and the bike has pleanty of power you'd probably never use. I don't know how much that 01 CR250 weighs, but I wouldn't think the 450 is NOT too much heavier. I think the 09 CRF450 is like 238lbs. I think it's a great machine because I haven't had to do too much work to it. 63 hrs and the valves are still where I set them before we even started it and he said that it hasn't lost a stitch of power. But since you never use all of it, how would you know if it lost any? 80 hours it's going to come apart. I'll know then how it's holding up. Great bike so far!
