Checking the clearances is very simple. It's just a matter of removing the cam cover and with the cam lobes pointing up, checking the clearances with a feeler gauge. Actual adjustment is the tricky part. Fortunately, these engines are renown for their lengthy adjustment intervals. Dave Hopkins here on TT has detailed written up instructions for checking/adjustment. If he doesn't chime in, you can always check his posts.

here are my questions. I know i have to get the lobes turned straight up right? so the rounded end is at the bottom? is that how you appropriately check the clearence? you just remove the cam covers and turn them? I noticed that when I tried to move the exhaust cam side to side without touching any bolts rior, it had a little free play when the other intake cam did not. Is this normal? the cam felt like it was a little loose but i don't know (the one closest to the exhaust) http://http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/honda910/ktmvalves2.jpg
