1984 XR500R Footpeg Fix

Recommended Posts

Finally got sick of the right footpeg bolts breaking off, this last time I wrecked pretty good (bent bars, etc) but no serious injuries. Anyone with this problem on the older XR's knows how frustrating this can be. Here are some pics of the work done by my local fab shop:

The guy who came up with this fix, not only is he an engineer but he also weighs 280lb and he jumped on it hard and it did not budge a bit. I'm only 230lb so I should be OK from here on out. This bit of custom work did cost me a bit but it's not like any other fix I have seen, also I believe in supporting the locals. PM me if you live in the Sacramento, CA area and I will tell you who they are, these guys are really great. They are primarily a performance shop but they also do regular maintenance and service for stock vehicles.

Preventative medicine, get some tires.

:bonk:I was going to say that.

Those front tires are horrible on the front of these big bikes. I have two of them (slightly used)on my shelf that i can't GIVE away.:moon:

My last two front tires..Bridgestone M403. The one before that Bridgestone 401 (kinda the same thing) I ran Perelli(or however ya say it) starcross(?) on my CR a few years ago but didn't try it on the XR .Also had a 606 on the XR for about a day. Eeeeesh horrible.

You are going to paint it right?

Yes.

Preventative medicine, get some tires.

Thanks... I have two new rears and two new fronts sitting in my garage waiting to go on. My local riding area is very hard on tires so I usually change them when they get really worn (like these) or before a long ride in some other area.
