DRZ Cruching noise from handlebars

Recommended Posts

Hello One and all...Merry Xmas....and Happy Holidays

I have a 2006 DRZ 400s. The previous owner has put a set of Renthal bars on the bike. I find the when I hold the front brake in and push down on the bars I can hear a crunching sound coming from the bars themselfs..Its not the headstock bearing or anything like that

Any ideas folks???

Cheer again for the help

The previous owner may have either put bb's in the bars or a bar snake, to reduce vibration. So when you flex the bars, that is what you are hearing.

Have you changed the grips yet? You would be able to see what's in there.

Mine made the same noise you describe and it was the headstem bearings.

Have you checked them for how much grease is in there?

You could also take the bars off, clean the top and bottom part of the clamps that hold the bars and re-assemble, some dirt may have got inbetween the clamping surfaces, making the noise.

My MTB used to do that from time to time.

Do you have bolt on Crossbar.

Mine worked loose and made a sound like you are describing.

Tightend up and all good.

Other thing may be movement in bar risers ( if you have them )
