09 KX450F Fork Guards Breaking

Recommended Posts

I have now broken multiple fork guards on my 09 and I think they are just shattering from roost. Seems to always happen during cold races (40's) and my thinking is that the thin plastic is very brittle when cold and shatters when roosted.

Anyone else have this happen and what guards do you run now?

I'm debating between some UFO/Acerbis ones or maybe carbon fiber.

Apply fork guard graphics and that should support the your guards from roost and eliminate breakage:banghead:

really, headbang? like fork graphics are a necessity.

your idea might help but not quite what I was looking for.

Crappy fork guards are nothing new on Kawasakis. I went through multiple sets on my KX. They start to crack almost like tempered glass, and then just disintigrate.

After switching to UFO guards I haven't had any more issues.

One set of fork guards lasted me a full GNCC season and are still going.. I did have graphics on from day one, but i'm not saying that made a difference..

I personally am real pissed, I have a '09 and my plastics are falling apart. the bike falls on the trail and chunks of number plates and rad shrouds keep breaking off. I think I'm going to replace all of the plastics with acerbis or ufo.:moon:

BTW, this is happening more in colder temps...
