Bike for my son ??

My son is 12 yrs old, 4'9" and weighs about 90-95lbs. He is coming off a PW80, which while small for him, was good for him to learn on this past year. He has shown some skill and was rdy to move-up to a bigger bike in short order. Problem is, from what I've read, is that he's currently a tweener between the 65's and 85's. He appears to be on the hvy side and maybe a bit tall for the 65's. But, he appears to be a bit short for an 85 (even the shorter KX). Really short for an 85 considering he'd be learning to use a clutch as well. I could go with a CRF80, which would be a good fit size-wise but I'm afraid he'd be pushing its limits in no time and then seeking a higher performing 2-stroke. Any suggestions appreciated - Thanks !

check out the new klx140

noooooooo! The klx 140 weighs over 200lbs! I would say weight a couple more months. My brother is the same size a and weight and he is on a ttr90. He will move on when he grows a little more.

so does the ttr 125, or the crf150f, but those have crappy drum brakes

the next step up would be a kx100 imo, or a ktm 105

I would check out crf 100 or xr 100, sure they have drum breaks and no e start, but we all managed to grow up without these things...

And the ktm 100 and 105 have an incredibly tall seat! He couldn't touch for a long time.....................

and they are easier to ride than an 85, basically the same size as an 85, but with more bottom end, smoother power

no, not the same size!

85sx

105xc

But I don't think it matters right now because my brother, who is 4'9" and about 90 ponds cant even touch on my 02 yz85. Its still too big for him if he tries to stop.

my 11 year old is about that size, and on a kx65

Just remember, a kx85 or yz85 will have much more power than the CRF80 or even 100. jusy my 2cents
