Headache issues

Recommended Posts

I have a headache for almost 7 weeks now. I have been to 5 Dr's now and am getting sick and tired of getting the run around. "Here, take these, and you should feel better" WRONG! I finally dumped my family Dr and found one a little closer to home. First Dr gave me vicadon, which helped temporarily. This all prompted me to get a physical seeings how I haven't had one in almost 10 years. Everything came back good, cholestorol was a tad hugh, but nothing to be to terribly concerned about. That Dr classified it as a muscle tension headache and prescribed muscle relaxers, which again helped temporarily. With all this going on, I have been getting a lot of nose bleeds. I have had a problem with nose bleeds since I was a little kid, so I am not to concerned with that part, yet. I walked into a walk in clinic a couple weeks later with a pounding headache in the frontal part of my forehead and behind my eyes, and they thought I might have had a staff infection inside my nose, but they said the culture came back negative for staff, but they thought I might have had a sinus infection, so they gave me antibiotics and presnidone for an anti inflamatory. Didn't really do anything. I went on my own to see a chiropractor thinking I might have a pinched nerve or something, had 4 adjustments and 2 massage sessions. The massage therapists said all my muscles in my neck and upper shoulders were really tight and it felt like it to. The only way I can explain the discomfort is it's like there is a ballon in my forehead area and it's a constant pressure, sometimes it's painfull, most of the time it's just irritating. I decided to go see a ear nose throat specialists and he told me to get a CT scan of my sinuses. It came back clear, sinuses are fine. Antibiotics might've cleared that up though. Spent most of last Tuesday evening in an urgent care clinic. Got 3 shots in my butt, one was for pain and inflamation, one was Benedryl and i can't remember what the other one was. He also gave me a prescribtion for Immutrex and more methylpresnidone for inflamation as he said some tissues in my nasal cavity were rather swollen. Been 3 days now and no reall improvement. Go to see a Neurologst next week and hopefully I can get a CT scan of my whole head to rule out factors like brain tumors, blood clots and such. I'm getting a little nervous with this going on so long, makes me think bad things are wrong with me. Sorry this post is so long, I'm just getting frustrated.

You need to get your jaw checked out, your neck checked out and if they come out ok...see if you can see a PT. Can't tell you how much it helped my headaches. Found out I have jaw issues...

this might sound odd to you...but i had similar expareince about 10 yrs ago...after tests and tests turned out that it was high pressure in my eyes....the white sleepy stuff in my eyes build up and build up and cause pressure which led to headaches for about 2 months straight...in order to get rid of i have to take a very very warm face cloth almost scolding place them on my eyes with them closed for about 2-3 minutes and all the white stuff will pour out and relief the pressure and headaches...but it won't work in one shot...i have to do it for about 2-4 times a day when i feel the headache and pressure building..might be work a try????

You may want to check if your blood pressure is on the high side. I take an alpha inhibitor to control mine and I feel much better. Previously I suffered from frequent headaches late in the day.

If it were me, I'd be making an appt with an ENT. They can put a small pencil sized scope in your nostril and have a look-see or have a CT of your sinuses.

You'd be surprised how much head pain a sinus infection can cause.

Just my 2 cents.

Have you been to a dentist? He or she should be able to tell if you are experiencing jaw issues. Could be TMJ.

Also, for sinus pressure, have you looked into a Neti Pot?

You could eat a raw jalapeno which will do basically the same thing. I eat them sometimes when my allergies kick up. I don't like taking drugs.

+1 on the high blood pressure thing.

Definitely get that CT scan. My girlfriend had surgery last march for a malformed artery in her brain that gave her AWFUL headaches for 16 years before she got anything done about it. Every doctor said the same thing yours did, gave her some medicine, told her it was migraines from the stress of being a student and sent her on her way. Boy, were they wrong.

Weird that you posted this I am going on about two weeks stright with my headaches, I have been told by a lot of people it is because I have not yet had wisdom teeth out yet. You had yours out? My denist told me it could also be with other mouth related issues too. If you have some sort of tooth infection, fluids build up and cause severe headaches. sounds like you have tried everything else, might want to go to a denist.

Well, I finally saw a neurologist today. I get an MRI on Monday, but he suspects a migraine disorder is what he calls it. He gave me some news meds that'll take a few days to kick in. I think the MRI will give me a lot of answers that I need to give me a piece of mind. I have a lot of tension in my upper neck right now and he said that's where migraines start and go from there. I "think" I am on the right track anyways. The MRI will be a little freaky as I am closturphobic a little. I should get the results on Tuesday of next week. I will keep you posted. Years ago, I had a similar instance but not this bad and for this duration. Had a CT scan of the brain and it came back clear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Are you talking about lock jaw or something like that?

Little Jeff

No TMJ. Plus I grind my teeth at night. Been doing it forever, like maybe 6 or 7?

Anyway, pain can be referred from one part of the body to another place...like the jaw to a tooth or head or sinus or neck. Or the whole area can be really really ticked off at you right now and be very tight making the whole area unhappy.

So I got a bite/tooth guard from the dentist and my chiropractor sent me to P.T. for my jaw and, dang if it doesn't make things a whole lot better.

P.T. is a LONG term fix so it will take awhile before you will see any kind of results. Plus, sometimes things get worse before they get better with P.T. so if they end up recommending it to you, please stick with it and don't give up. Remember it took a long time for things to get this pissed off at you!

My wife had really bad headaches constantly since about July (almost 8 months now). She started at the local doctors...they gave her all kinds of pain killers and other meds. Didn't help. Then off to a local neuralogist....CT scans, allergy tests, physical therapy all kinds of different meds and nothing helped. It was getting so bad that she couldn't really function any more. She made an appointment to a headache clinic in Missouri. This place is supposed to be THE place to go if you can't find the cause of you headaches. They were prepared to do all kinds of tests and run her through the mill but after about 2 or 3 hours of talking to her on the first day they thought it might be this really rare kind of headache. There was a specific type of medicine for this type of headache. She tried it and the next day the headaches were all but gone. She says she is feeling really good now (this is only her 4th or 5th day on the medicine). After 6 straight months of headaches it is such a relief! The doc said that this is an extremely rare type of headache and that he's only seen about 20 people with it (at a headache specialty clinic).

My point in this whole story is: If you can't find the problem locally it would probably be well worth your $ to go to this specialty clinic. The local guys just don't have the expertise like the specialty clinics do. I can get you the name of the clinic (I'd have to talk to my wife).

Missouri is a little far away to go see a specialist. I will see what the MRI tells next week and then I'll go from there. Glad that your wife is feeling better. I actually was able to go riding today, it was short, but Iwas riding. Did about 23 miles of single track. Felt good just to get out. I am feeling a little better, obviously if I went riding. Neuro Dr gave me some new meds to try and they seem to be helping a little. The headaches tend to get worse towards the end of the day. I really doesn't effect my sleeping, my appetite is good, no vision problems. Although the sun does effect it a little bit. Neuro Dr ran me through all the usual tests like balance, etc.... and all came back good. I will post more info when I get it from Neuro Dr.

Yep, it is. But after 8 months of non stop headaches...........well worth it if it solves the problem.

Had MRI on Monday, came back clear, go figure. Headaches have deminished somewhat but are still there to an extent. Headaches, mysteries of life I guess. It was a relief to find out there was nothing wrong inside like tumors and such.

Please then, go get your jaw checked out by a dentist. You'd be surprised how much come from that area.

+1

I used to experience terrible headaches, and that was the cause of it (TMJ). The pain was almost nauseating.
