wheel and spoke question?

Recommended Posts

I have some bent spokes on my rear wheel and some of the spokes can't be tightened anymore(already tightened all the way down). My question is: Do the wheels need replacing, or can I just replace the spokes? Checked the wheel for runout and it seems to be true. Not sure how the spokes got bent.

If you can't tighten your spokes anymore yet you say the wheel is true then you can replace your spokes and probably be fine with the old rim.

You have stretched your spokes and with bent ones you should not ride untill you rectify them.

Rechecked the wheel today with a marker and the wheel isn't true(put marker on the swingarm under the brake line and rotated the wheel). Marker left two different marks about three inches long and nine inches apart. Will new spokes straighten the wheel out, or does the wheel need replacing?

In this case I would suggest a whole new set of spokes, and having someone who knows how lace and true the wheel.
