99 300 EXC Top Speed

OK maybe I'm just old but my bike sounds like it is going to explode at around 50MPH. I have 13/50 gearing and I'm pretty sure everything is stock. I have a spreadsheet that has always been pretty accurate and it predicts 46MPH and 5000rpm in 5th gear. Sure sounds/feels like more than that.

What is the top speed for this gearing?

Do these bikes have a rev limiter?

Im not sure what you're top speed would be, but no; 2 strokes do not have a rev limiter. They limit themselves mechanically at a certain RPM because of several factors

I hope the limiting factor isn't shrapnel. Next time out I'm going to push it a little harder and see what happens.

The stock gearing was most likely 14-52 (3.71) 13-50 (3.84) would be fine for tight s/t....to tight for faster stuff.

I had a 2000 300exc with 13/48 gears that would do over 95 down the runway with a cop checking my speed.

I think my 2008 KTM 300 W will do about 90 with stock gearing.
