Who made the first 85?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a 2003 RM85 for a great price for my nephew and it's got me all interested in the 85 class...I was wondering which manufacture was the first to punch the displacement to the max allowable by the AMA at 85...Then which company was second, third, etc.

Nah, it wasn't a Honda, at least not in the United States.

I believe it went:

2001 Kawasaki KX-85A1

2002 Yamaha YZ-85P

2003 Honda CR-85R and CR-85RB

2003 Suzuki RM-85K3

Correct. And then KTM introduced theirs in 2004. They did not have a bike for this class until that year.

That is right.

Just as a side note, they actually went from 82cc to 84cc.

Are you saying that KTM produced an 85cc mini in '04? or that they did not produce a mini at all until '04?

The reason I ask is because I have seen and ridden a ktm 80 back in the early early 90's.

And it did not have a flux capacitor.

KTM did have a POS 80 way back in the 90's....

Also your list is right but it really doesnt matter because only the names have changed not much else...they were all 82-83 cc the whole time
