Nevada Nevada In The Winter?

Recommended Posts

Can I ride to Death Valley from Reno off road in the Winter or Spring? I was looking at all the trails east of Carson City...just kinda paralleling the CA/NV border...ending up in Gold Point, NV. Then doing a loop in DV. I see the elevations are high in some places, but wondering if considering it is high desert...it's all still passable. Looking at doing a 4day trip - 2days from Reno to Gold Point, day in DV, day to get back home to sac.

Any info much appreciated.

The western ranges tend to get more snow than the eastern. Riding at elevation in Nevada during the winter is always a crap shoot..... just like the weather.

If it were me, i would not take the chance

+1 on that. Gambling is only legal in the casinos and convenience stores. It's a gamble I wouldn't take either until at least Memorial Day. Even then it's sketch.

several roads are closed on DV from the rains we had, and some of the "passes" are closed due to snow in DV.

we do an annual rally in Gold Point in April, with a 200 mile loop into DV. we've had sunburns, rain, sleet, and rainbows all in the same ride!

check here for last year's pics and ride reports Gold Point 2009
