Single layer head gasket with Permatex copper?

Recommended Posts

I've done a bit of searching but haven't found quite this subject. If I split a three layer cometic head gasket (94mm cylinder) and use only one layer with some copper spray, very flat mating surfaces (and sane compression levels) will the head gasket seal be weaker/stronger/unchanged? Presumedly the three layers is to guard against mating surface irregularities? I'm gonna guess inadvisible but I'm still interested.

don't split the head gasket. if you want to raise the compression... split the base gasket.

Yup, gotcha. Thats what I intend to do, was just interested in the head gasket question as you do see single layer head gaskets on various engines.

as long as you can maintian a .030" minimum piston to head clearacne and have the cam with enough duration to deal with the compression,ok.
