Back muscle strain.

Open question:

After a 2hr 45min desert race, I have the usual aches and pains. However, the most troubled spot I have is the muscles over the ribs in my back, right under the shoulder blades. I stretch well and I (try to) manage my acceleration and deceleration posture to minimize back muscle strain - but to no avail.

Is there an exercise I can focus on to help those muscles deal with the general stress and strain of hanging onto the handlebars?
