04 ktm 125 for $1400

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm really considering buying this bike. Original price was 1700, I talked him down to 1400. Top end replaced last spring, only about 10-15 hours on it since. Plastic looks to be in awesome shape, well taken care of bike. I"m just wondering if this is a good buy and are the 2004 ktm 125 sx good bikes?

I agree. That would be a great play bike for me....

have you settled on 1400? If not, I would try best I could to get it cheaper within reason, so you will have less to loose later..

I've agreed to 1400 as long as the bike is in the condition he stated.

We'll find out tomorrow

A little advice for future purchases: I won't agree to pricing or even try to negotiate till I physcially see the bike. This way, if something is wrong or I find something that wasn't mentioned, it's easier to negotiate further. This way, if it doesn't suit me, I haven't wasted unecessary time trying to beat someone up on price. Price means nothing till you are ready to buy. As a matter of fact, I won't negotiate with anyone on the phone when I am selling something, either. Got to show up to buy, we can negotiate then.

KTM prices are crazy in the Northwest. If the bike is in good condition then its a great deal.

Well I guys I bought the bike!! Couple things though:

The bike hasn't been ridden in about 6 months. The bike wouldn't idle without the choke on. And when the choke was on it was to high of an idle. It would idle for maybe 5-10 seconds without the choke on then would die. IF I eased into the throttle when riding the bike seemed to be fine, but not very powerfull. But IF I hit the throttle any harder the bike would bog down bad. I also noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust and fresh oil leakage on the tailpipe. I"m not sure if its the old gas/oil or a jetting problem or does the carb need a cleaning? Should I take it in and have someone tune it up?

He had more then the top end done. So was the entire engine rebuilt? Here's what the receipt says.

Rod out

rebuild as needed

spark plug

rod kit

wiseco piston, gaskets

muose?? (not sure what this is)

main bearings

split case - press crank rode (not sure)

Total $655

I'm hoping its just a simple fix. What do you guys think? I can take some pictures if it would help?

pull the carb, take it apart and clean it out real good. All the little orifices and jets. That's the problem, the carb is gummed up with blocked passages. Put new gas in, new plug, and give it a whack. Change the gear oil also. Go over all the bolts, check for play in the wheels, pivot points, brake pads, etc.

if you aren't familiar with the carb, there's a pictorial in the FAQ for carb removal, going over the internal parts.
