Recommended Posts

Just picked up this bike in december rode it recently and im at mid rpm range in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear and i hit the throttle to take off and the bike bogs down and wants to shut off. The bike is still all stock, i rebuilt the carb and everything is set to stock settings. Any suggestions??

im not gonna lie but my opinion on the 01 and what ever years they were the same as the 01 were shit. a friend had one and had the same prob. i guess they are just made shitty, but they do just bog when you smash the throttle. all of them. but it ran better when we had high grade gas and oil mixture.

First off, don't listen to this guy, because obviously his "opinion" is less than invaluable.

I would check your jetting and the jets in general. Perhaps there is a little gunk in one of the jets that was not noticed. Maybe look into the JD jet kit, a lot of people have had good luck with the kit on their Mikuni carbs. Many people swap out for the Keihin PWK to also help with their jetting issues. Check your reeds. Check the powervalve and make sure it is working properly and clean. Check your compression, when was the last time the top end was done?

This bike sat in a shed for about 6 years its only been ridden a few times, i got it from a friend cuz he didn't ride it at all. I took the whole bike apart and the top end looks brand new, the reeds look spotless, i rebuilt the carb too. I read somewhere that this bike is jetted "pig rich" the main jet is a number 380 for the 2001 but i believe was a 360 in 2000. I tried moving the jet needle clip up one then again another spot and road it and it was worse. I also tried to adjust the airscrew thinking it wasnt getting enough air and it still does the same thing.
