TT-R Wheels more valuable than gold?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a spare set of wheels for a TT-R225 and I'm not seeing many available, a few on ebay up to $190 before shipping and not a whole lot anywhere else I normally scavenge parts.

Is there any others that will fit? I read the XT225 are soft and like to rip out nipples, is that true?

Anyone willing to part with a wheel or two? Preferably rear, but I'd be interested in either.

Rear is more important to me too. Any alloy/solid wheels fit? Perhaps from a street bike? I'm looking for something that a SM/street tire would work on, so spokes aren't 100% necessary.

I guess I'll have to do some research on wheel bearings.

I'll post back what I find.

all you need to do a disc conversion,

1) rear rim from a yz any year

2) the right side spacer to brake bracket

3) the brake bracket

4) make sure the brake bracket is the right one so it matches up with the rotor

5) i used spacers on the axle (TTR axle) because the ttr axle is smaller, these slide into the wheel hub and brake bracket, i used 4 spacers altogether

6) 8-9 1/2" or 5/8" flat washers 5 washers on the leftside and 3 washers on the right side

yes, the whole brake system, i found it easier with all the yz parts, plus as i acuired it off ebay i got got it cheap. as for the master brake cylinder any one will do, the one i got came with the foot pedal so it was a bonus

the brake reservoir just zap straps to the frame

Hey 'nlafond2000',

Just out of curiosity, have you had any problem with thumping the brake cylinder with your right boot . . . or getting the boot / your foot snagged on it? It just 'looks' like it could be in the way. Just wondering.

Oh, also, just for clarification . . . so, that's the stock TT-R125 swing arm and shock? All you swapped out was the braking materials . . . right?

P.S. - Are you in the position to sell one of these mounting brackets to some of us who might be interested?

i wondered a bit also, but i haven't hooked or damaged it in 2 years, it is actually out of the way because it is next to the frame. actually it is an 06 TTr 230, stock swing arm, and swapped out braking materials, no welding or grinding.

i could make some brackets and almost give them away $10, whatever shipping is anyway

On this subject, if anyone else is looking at the XT225 rear wheel assembly, I found this on a XT225 thread:

It is a yes and no, I has two sets of rims for my XT, one set of TTR rims and one set of XT rims.

The TTR rims are a direct bolt in but you MUST use the brake assembly from the TTR. Also the brake arm sits above the swingarm so you must either flip the arm, or bend your rod so it goes above the swingarm. The actual problem comes with the sprocket. The sprockets have the same bolt pattern, but the TTR sprocket stud holes are 10m, versus the XT have 8mm holes (might be 12 and 10) so you must have a sprocket made for the hub. Sprocket Specialist will sell you any size sprocket you want with the TTR bolt pattern and hole size.

Hope this helps.

So obviously the XT225 rear wheel is not a perfect match, as you'd need the brake assembly and the sprocket is different.

From what I've read elsewhere, you probably didn't want an XT225 wheel anyway, the factory nipples rip through the factory rim and many of the XT people have moved to the TT-R wheel, which explains why it's harder to find a TT-R225 wheel.

Still thinking I'm gonna do the YZ wheel when I get some time.
