DX3 Loose Forks

Recommended Posts

Got a problem. Where the triple clamp swivels in the frame headtube, there is about 1/4 inch slack . If you grip the handlebars, you can push it forward and back. I have a felling something is bent but I dont want to take it apart just yet. Anyone know what the problem is?

sounds like your triple clamps have been pushed apart, or your headset is shot. If it's that first one, just loosen the hex head bolts on the triples and then pull them together with the star cap on the top of the upper clamp.

The small hex head bolts? How will that solve the problem. Wouldnt that mess with the forks?

So, the triple clamps work like this. The two clamps are held together by a star nut on the top of the upper clamp, and tightening this star nut will pull the triple clamps closer together. To do so, you will need to loosen the small hex bolts which clamp around the fork stanchions. with everything loosened, simply tighten the star nut down and then re tighten the hex head bolts on the stanchions. If that doesn't solve the issue it might be your headset.

Here you'll see the star nut, loosen this up

then loosen the 8 hex head bolts to release the fork tubes from the clamps.
