Getting back into it after broken back

Recommended Posts

I had a burst fracture on my T8 vertebrate just over a year ago. I also broke a couple processes (those little bones on the vertebrate) above and below the burst fracture. I was VERY lucky and did not sever the spinal cord. However, I did get surgery to get 2 rods put in and fuse the vertebrate.

The whole reason behind this post is because I want to race dirt bikes this summer and I am concerned that with having this many vertebrate fused/fixed that if i get bucked off the bike and land on my shoulder or any kind of accelerated hit, I will break it again above or below the fixation. If anyone has experience or educated ideas or input, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Not a medical expert, but i also broke T8 4 years ago and just got back into the dirt. I just highly suggest getting a good back protecter like http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=ASR_650658-13-SM_G or http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=PAR_2702-0072_G They protect so much better than the typical roost deflector that most wear. I was wearing a similer protector when i broke mine and the Dr's believe i would be in a wheelchair without it. It was about a 130mph get off on a sportbike and i took the tail section of the bike to my back.
